Since everyone seems to have a Substack newsletter, I figured I would transition to Substack, too.
For my new subscribers, thank you for signing up! If you’re not familiar with me or my work, you can read my bio here. (For those of you who used to receive my “Nearly Nonexistent Newsletter,” this format will look very different –– if you even remember that one.)
If this were my old newsletter, I would be letting you know that after a fellowship at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) where I served as the primary researcher and in-house editor for The Coddling of the American Mind, I am now serving as a Senior Scholar at the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) as well as a Visiting Senior Research Associate at the Stevanovich Institute on the Formation of Knowledge (SIFK) at the University of Chicago. And I’m also working on my book project: Habits of a Free Mind –– a toolkit for engaging across lines of difference without feeling traumatized and without dehumanizing others. (By the way, Greg Lukianoff, the president and CEO of FIRE, came up with the title!)
Especially for my previous subscribers who might not be familiar with the Substack phenomenon, let me explain what’s happening over here on Substack:
There are three subscription levels…
1) For a free subscription, you’ll get my newsletter with links to things that I’ve published elsewhere (for example, my articles on the Psychology Today platform and at the Jewish Journal among others). I will also include links to podcasts and other events –– like a Zoom panel on which I’ll be speaking about free speech in the digital age along with Nadine Strossen, former president of the ACLU, and David Freiheit, lawyer and YouTuber. I’ll also suggest other people’s work from time to time. (I might even include regular humor recommendations.)
2) For a monthly or annual paid subscription, you will get all that free stuff plus some things I’ll write just for paid subscribers, plus some exclusive live events –– on clubhouse and/or zoom. (The annual rate is discounted from the monthly subscription.)
3) If you subscribe as a founding member, you’ll get all that stuff plus some founding member-only clubhouse and/or zoom talks. Founding members will also have the opportunity to participate in small conversations with interesting people for either an additional fee or a donation to the speaker’s charity of choice. (And founding members hold a special place in my heart.)
If you signed up right before I moved over to Substack or if you were on my old newsletter list, then by default, you have been subscribed at the free level. If you’d like to upgrade, click here. If you’d rather not get these emails, you can unsubscribe below.
Welcome! This will be fun!
Warmly,
Pamela
